The Christian Life Community is not so much an organisation but a way of life inspired by the spirituality of St Ignatius, with a presence in over sixty countries around the world. We embrace this way of life as a means of enabling us to bring together our faith and our lives so that we are aware of God working in every aspect of them. Some of us come to CLC without any prior experience of Ignatian spirituality; others come after discovering Ignatian spirituality in various ways, such as weeks of guided prayer or retreats.

We try to pray each day, learning to meditate on the Scriptures and to reflect on the working of God in our lives. Over time, this daily practice helps us to grow in sensitivity to the ways God is leading us, both in quiet moments and in the midst of our ordinary activities.
We see our relationship with Jesus as central to our lives, shaping how we engage with our families, our work, and the wider community.
We grow in our experience of the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius through retreats and by using Ignatian methods of prayer, including the Daily Examen — a simple practice of reviewing each day to notice where God has been present and where we are being invited to grow.
We are companions of Christ in his mission to establish the reign of God wherever we live or work.
Through prayer and community, each of us discovers the call to serve Christ in the home, at work, in the parish, in the local community and through organisations working to reform the unjust structures of society.
In our regular community meetings we listen to how God has been at work in each other, receive support and are encouraged to persevere in deepening our union with God.
At regional and national meetings we are put in touch with the wider community and we widen our horizons.

The CLC traces its roots to Saint Ignatius Loyola, whose conversion experience during recovery from battle wounds led him to develop the Spiritual Exercises to help others encounter God.
The Exercises shaped both the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and lay congregations known as the Sodalities of Our Lady. In 1563, young Jesuit John Leunis founded the first CLC in Rome, gathering lay students to integrate their everyday lives with Christian values. Pope Gregory XIII confirmed the movement in 1584.
By 1920 there were 80,000 sodalities worldwide. In 1967, the movement adopted the name Christian Life Community and replaced its original rules with The General Principles. CLC is now a worldwide lay association found in sixty countries.
The first Australian CLC was founded in Adelaide in 1976 and has since spread to all mainland states, with about 90 groups currently active.
